Biography

Ali Mahta, MD, is a board-certified neurologist and neurocritical care specialist at UC San Diego Health. He treats patients with acute neurological emergencies that require intensive care, including those with severe brain injuries, strokes, and brain tumors, as well as those recovering from neurosurgical procedures. He serves as an associate professor in the Department of Neurosciences at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where he trains medical students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Mahta is also the director of the Neurocritical Care Fellowship Program at UC San Diego. His research interests focus on biomarkers and outcome predictors for various types of strokes, subarachnoid and intracerebral hemorrhages, acute brain injuries, and the development of molecular targeted therapies for vascular diseases and strokes. He has authored numerous published papers, book chapters, abstracts, and presentations, and is a member of several medical societies, including the Neurocritical Care Society and the American Academy of Neurology. Dr. Mahta completed his medical degree at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, his residency at Temple University School of Medicine, and his fellowships in clinical spine and neurocritical care at Temple University and Columbia University, respectively.
