Biography

Ali Meghji is an Associate Professor of Social Inequalities at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on critical race theory, postcolonial sociology, and the global dynamics of racialization and racism. He aims to overcome the methodological nationalism that characterizes contemporary race scholarship and develops frameworks for transnational raciality. Ali has held visiting fellowships at prestigious institutions such as Harvard's Weatherhead Centre and University of Chicago's Black Metropolis Research Consortium. He is also actively involved in undergraduate education as the director and convenor for various courses including SOC12 Empire, Colonialism, and Imperialism. Currently, he co-directs the Catalysts for Decolonisation research lab. He serves as co-editor-in-chief of the British Journal of Sociology and participates on several editorial boards, including Ethnic and Racial Studies. His ongoing research, funded by the British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust, explores the contributions of classical Black sociologists and the de-Americanization of the Pan-African movement. Ali is committed to supervising graduate students in sociology, specifically in areas relating to empire, imperialism, and decolonial approaches within social theory.
