Ali Sadeghi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomechanical Engineering at the University of Twente, where he leads the Soft Robotics Lab. His research focuses on developing novel soft actuators and sensors, with particular emphasis on design, material innovation, and advanced additive manufacturing. These systems aim to enable next-generation wearable robots and healthcare devices that can safely and adaptively interact with humans and their surroundings. In the Soft Robotics Lab, he develops new methods for robotic machines and additive manufacturing of soft robots. Key achievements include the creation of a soft rubber pellet extruder printer and multi-material polymer printer technologies that significantly advance the capabilities of soft material fabrication. His group's research centers on 3D printing of hyperelastic, fiber-reinforced, multi-material smart polymers, which enable the integration of sensing, actuation, and intelligence in soft robotic systems. Sadeghi received his Ph.D. (cum laude) in Micro-BioRobotics from the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Italy in 2013 and holds an M.Sc. in Manufacturing Production Engineering from the University of Tehran. Before joining the University of Twente, he spent years in academia and research institutes, deepening his passion for soft robotics during his time at the Italian Institute of Technology’s Center for Micro-BioRobotics. His work has contributed significantly to the fields of soft robotics, growing robots, and additive manufacturing.
