Ali Tavassoli is a Professor of Chemical Biology at the University of Southampton and the Chief Scientific Officer of Curve Therapeutics, a venture capital-backed spin-out company. He leads an interdisciplinary team focused on developing novel chemical tools to gain new insights into protein-protein interactions in cell biology, serving as a starting point for new therapeutics. Ali has held prominent positions within the Royal Society of Chemistry, including President of the Chemical Biology Interface Division from 2020 to 2023 and has been elected as a Fellow of the RSC. He is also an editorial board member for RSC Chemical Biology and has contributed to various committees within the RSC. His academic journey began with a BSc in Chemistry from the University of Bristol, followed by a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry at the University of Reading, where he developed [2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement of ammonium ylides under the supervision of Professor Joe Sweeney. After postdoctoral work at the University of Sussex with Professor Douglas Young and at Pennsylvania State University with Professor Stephen Benkovic, Ali began his independent career at the University of Southampton in 2006, where he was promoted to Professor in 2015. Throughout his career, he has received several awards, including the European Association of Chemical and Molecular Sciences' medal for European Young Chemist in 2008, the RSC Medimmune Protein Peptide Science Award in 2017, and the European Peptide Society's Leonidas Zervas Award in 2020.
