Biography

Ali Coşkun Tunçer is an economic historian specializing in the history of financial markets in the Middle East. He received his PhD from the London School of Economics in 2011 and has completed his BA, MSc, and MPhil degrees in Turkey and Greece. He joined University College London (UCL) in 2013 after teaching and conducting research at the London School of Economics and the European University Institute. His current research project investigates urban wealth and religious segregation in the Ottoman Empire from 1600 to 1914. He is also examining the development of stock exchanges in the Middle East and the history of domestic debt in emerging markets. Tunçer supervises PhD students and is particularly interested in proposals that incorporate social science methods related to economic and financial history.
