Biography

Professor Alice Hunt specializes in Early Modern Literature and History and is a member of Southampton's Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Culture. She joined the University of Southampton as a lecturer in 2006 after completing her BA in English and French at Balliol College, Oxford, and her MA and PhD at Birkbeck College, London. Before becoming a full-time academic, she worked in trade publishing with Weidenfeld & Nicolson and Atlantic Books, London, and regularly contributes to the London Review of Books. Professor Hunt teaches undergraduate modules on Queens, Devils, and Players in Early Modern England, Radical England: Literature in Crisis in the Seventeenth Century, and Shakespeare. She supervises PhD projects focusing on early modern European queens, medieval and early modern drama, and Shakespeare. Currently, she is supervising projects related to John Evelyn, Shakespeare, and early modern spectacle, and welcomes enquiries on topics concerning late sixteenth- and seventeenth-century British literature, politics, and culture, particularly the British republic and Restoration.
