Biography

Dr. Alice Ming Wai Jim is a Professor of Contemporary Art History in the Department of Art History at Concordia University. She holds a Tier 1 Concordia University Research Chair in Critical Curatorial Studies and Decolonizing Art Institutions. As an established scholar, Dr. Jim’s research spans contemporary art, focusing on new media, contemporary Asian art, and Asian Canadian diasporic art. She is a founding co-editor-in-chief of the journal Asian Diasporic Visual Cultures Americas. Dr. Jim’s extensive curatorial experience includes organizing major exhibitions that interrogate cultural identity and its representation in contemporary art. Notably, she has worked on projects addressing the contributions of artists of color and Indigenous artists in Canada. Throughout her career, Dr. Jim has been recognized for her contributions to art history and curatorial studies, receiving prestigious awards and participating in influential academic panels and conferences. She also mentors graduate students and has supervised numerous successful thesis projects that engage with critical race theory, migration, and the complexities of contemporary art practices.
