Biography

Alice C P is a Lecturer in Imperial Environmental History at the University of Bristol. With a focus on the materiality and embodied approaches to the environment, particularly during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, her research interests include the relationships between animals and humans and the temporal experiences related to environmental history. She is particularly engaged in teaching and pedagogy, emphasizing sustainability in environmental education. Alice's forthcoming book, 'Skinning Empire: Environment, Embodiment Time British Taxidermy History', published by Oxford University Press, explores the intricate relationships of animal bodies in the taxidermy trade during the long nineteenth century in Britain and the British Empire. This research investigates the materialities and senses involved in the creation of specimens, alongside the colonial practices of hunting and museum exhibition. Alice has also contributed to research on sensory adaptations of dark-adapted nocturnal creatures, drawing from environmental history and disability studies. She is a core member of the teaching team for the Environmental Humanities MA, teaching numerous units across different years on topics such as Environmental History, Global Empires, and Decolonisation.
