Dr. Alice Parker

Biography

Alice C. Parker is an accomplished academic in the field of Electrical Engineering, particularly known for her contributions to design automation, high-level synthesis, and hardware description languages. She received her Ph.D. from North Carolina State University in 1975 and has held esteemed positions such as Professor at the University of Southern California (USC) within the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Throughout her career, Dr. Parker has also served as Division Director for Computer Engineering and Dean of Graduate Studies at USC, eventually becoming Vice Provost for Research. While at Carnegie Mellon, she pioneered high-level synthesis research, establishing herself as one of the earliest researchers in the area. Among her significant contributions are biomimetic neuromorphic circuits and the creation of CMOS carbon nanotube neural nanocircuits, advancing the understanding of synthetic cortical behavior. Dr. Parker has received numerous accolades, including the ASEE Sharon Keillor Award and the South Central Scholars Service Award. She continues to engage in significant research initiatives incorporating glial cell interactions into neuromorphic circuits.
