Alice Sverdlik is an interdisciplinary urban researcher with a strong commitment to developing equitable partnerships in the Global South. Her research interests encompass urban health, shelter infrastructure in informal settlements, climate adaptation, gender issues, and informal livelihoods. Over the years, she has collaborated closely with Slum Dwellers International (SDI) and other grassroots partners in various African cities, particularly Zimbabwe and India. At the University of Manchester, she contributes to postgraduate modules in urban development planning and engages in international fieldwork focusing on climate resilience and qualitative research. Alice currently serves as a Co-Investigator on an ESRC/NFRF project related to health equity in climate action across Bulawayo, Freetown, and Kampala. Previously, she was the research manager for an NIHR-funded project investigating occupational health risks related to climate change for informal workers in India and Zimbabwe. She has contributed significantly to the University of Manchester's African Cities Research Consortium (ACRC) and has been involved with international research institutions, including the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). Alice has worked on various projects that analyze shelter and grassroots responses to COVID-19 and other related themes.
