Biography

Alice Thorneywork is an Associate Professor in Physical Chemistry at Oxford Photonics University. As a Royal Society University Research Fellow, her research focuses on transport phenomena in soft matter and nanoscale systems. She works with experimental models involving colloids, microfluidics, optical tweezers, and solid-state nanopores as part of her investigation into DNA nanotechnology. The aim of her research is to achieve a fundamental understanding of the dynamics of many-body systems at the single-particle level. A significant component of her work involves bright field microscopy, where she uses highly controlled experiments as testbeds for new image data analysis techniques that can be applied to complex systems. Furthermore, she is engaged in comprehensively identifying transport mechanisms over varying length scales and developing new nanofluidic devices for molecular sensing and iontronics.
