Dr. Alice Towler

Biography

Alice Towler is a Casual Academic in the School of Psychology at the University of New South Wales, focusing on enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of face identification decisions in forensic settings. Her research encompasses identifying predictors of superior face identification ability, known as super-recognition, developing evidence-based methods for facial image comparison, and optimizing how human facial recognition software can collaborate to identify individuals. Dr. Towler actively collaborates with colleagues, including Dr. David White and Prof. Richard Kemp, at the UNSW Forensic Psychology Lab, where they work closely with the Australian Passport Office to improve the detection of identity fraud in passport applications. In addition, she is an active member of the Evidence Based Forensics Initiative, an interdisciplinary group composed of lawyers, forensic scientists, and cognitive scientists, dedicated to advocating for evidence-based practices within forensic sciences.
