Biography

Alicia Cohen, MD, MSc, FAAFP is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and also serves as an Assistant Professor in Health Services, Policy, and Practice at the Brown University School of Public Health. She is a core investigator and co-director of the VA Advanced Health Systems Research Postdoctoral Fellowship and is affiliated with the VA Providence Healthcare System's Transformative Health Systems Research Improve Veteran Equity Independence (THRIVE) Center of Innovation. Dr. Cohen's research focuses on understanding and improving patient and community health system processes, particularly concerning food insecurity. She is a VA Career Development Awardee utilizing mixed methods implementation science to develop and evaluate strategies that enhance screening and referral processes for Veterans vulnerable to food insecurity. Her findings have contributed to Congressional testimony regarding veteran military hunger and she co-leads a national VA clinical intervention program aimed at addressing health-related social needs. Dr. Cohen practices primary care at the VA Providence’s Homeless clinic and Women’s Health clinic, underscoring her commitment to service. She completed her MD at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and trained in Family Medicine at the UCSF-Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency, followed by an Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Michigan. As a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar, she earned a master’s degree in Health Care Research at the University of Michigan and completed further fellowship training in Health Services Research at the VA Ann Arbor Center for Clinical Management Research.
