Dr. Alicia Mcdonough

Biography

Alicia McDonough is a Professor in the Department of Physiology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. Her research focuses on cardiorenal physiology and hypertension, investigating the molecular mechanisms that regulate electrolyte balance and blood pressure in the human body. She has published extensively on the role of sodium pump isoforms in various physiological contexts, particularly in the kidneys and the heart. Dr. McDonough has been recognized as an Established Investigator by the American Heart Association and has received multiple prestigious awards for her contributions to the field, including the Irvine Page & Alba Bradley Lifetime Achievement Award and the Robert Pitt Award from the International Union of Physiological Sciences. She has a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring future generations of scientists, exemplified through her active participation in academic training programs and editorial boards. Dr. McDonough earned her undergraduate degree in Physiology from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by a PhD from the University of Hawaii. She began her career at USC in 1981 and has since influenced numerous research projects aimed at understanding and treating hypertension through dietary and pharmacological approaches.
