Biography

Alidad Amirfazli's current research focuses on surface engineering and understanding droplet surface interactions to develop platform technologies for diverse applications including water management, fuel cells, anti-icing systems for wind turbines and aircraft, pesticide application, spray cooling, and additive manufacturing-related instrumentation. His extensive international collaborations include research in Italy, Germany, Belgium, and Spain. Amirfazli is recognized as a Canada Research Chair in Surface Engineering and has earned the rare distinction of receiving NSERC’s Discovery Accelerator Supplement Grant twice. Among his past honors are appointments such as Killam Annual Professor and recipient of the Martha Cook Piper Research Prize. At Lassonde, he was instrumental in founding the Energy Club, a student group aimed at engaging with the broader community to promote sustainability and provide energy information. He co-taught a groundbreaking interdisciplinary energy course that aligns closely with the Renaissance Engineering™ concept of Lassonde. Furthermore, Professor Amirfazli has served on the Board of Examiners for the Professional Engineering body in Alberta (APEGA) and has consulted for both local and multinational companies, as well as serving on review boards for funding agencies.
