Biography

Dr. Alidad Amirfazli's current research focuses on surface engineering, specifically understanding droplet-surface interactions to develop platform technologies for diverse applications. These include areas such as water management, fuel cells, anti-icing systems for wind turbines and aircraft, printing technology, pesticide applications, spray cooling, and additive manufacturing, along with related instrumentation. His extensive international collaborations span multiple countries including Italy, Germany, Belgium, and Spain. Dr. Amirfazli holds the prestigious Canada Research Chair in Surface Engineering and has received the NSERC’s DAS Grant distinction twice. His previous accolades also include being appointed as the Killam Annual Professor and receiving the Martha Cook Piper Research Prize. At Lassonde, he was instrumental in founding the Energy Club, a student group aimed at engaging the broader community to promote sustainability and energy information. Moreover, he co-taught a groundbreaking interdisciplinary energy course aligning with the Renaissance Engineering™ concept. Professor Amirfazli also served on the Board of Examiners for the Professional Engineering body in Alberta (APEGA) and consulted for both local and multinational companies, in addition to participating in review boards for funding agencies.
