Biography

Aliko Songolo is a Visiting Professor focusing on French and Francophone Literatures, with a notable tenure as Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and previous teaching experience at the University of California, Irvine. His research centers on Francophone literatures from Africa and the Caribbean, as well as Francophone cinema from Africa. He has authored a monograph titled 'Aimé Césaire: une poétique de la découverte' and co-edited significant volumes such as 'Twenty-five Years Dakar Fourah Bay: Growth African Literature' and 'Atlantic Cross-Currents / Transatlantiques'. Songolo has also served as Associate Editor for the five-volume 'New Encyclopedia Africa'. His recent research explores postcolonial themes, particularly in relation to the Négritude movement and a project titled 'Aimé Césaire Screen'. In recognition of his contributions, he was named Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French government in 2009. Recently, he has taught courses like 'Contemporary French Film Social Issues: Resistance in French Francophone Cinema' and 'Global Paris: Black Paris'.
