Biography

Alina Scott is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute of Historical Studies and a Lecturer in History at the University of Texas at Austin. She holds a Ph.D. in History, which she expects to complete in 2025. Her research interests encompass 18th and 19th-century Native American culture, politics, and protest movements, focusing specifically on indigenous petitioning campaigns and the role of memory in historical narratives. Alina's dissertation, supervised by Dr. Erika Bsumek, examines the dynamics of Indigenous resistance and advocacy in the 19th century. She graduated with a B.A. in History and English from Southern Nazarene University in 2017 and received an M.A. in History with a focus on Native American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin in 2019. Her M.A. report analyzed petition trends among predominantly Wampanoag towns in mid-19th century Massachusetts, contributing to a deeper understanding of indigenous agency in historical contexts. Alina has also served as an assistant editor for the publication Not Even Past and as managing editor of the Native American Indigenous Studies Journal, alongside hosting the History Department's podcast, 15 Minute History, during the 2021-2022 academic year.
