Dr. Alina Trapova

Biography

Alina Trapova is an expert in copyright law at University College London, where she serves as a Lecturer in Intellectual Property Law. She is also a Co-Director of the Institute of Brand and Innovation Law (IBIL), collaborating with Professor Sir Robin Jacob. Alina leads initiatives on generative AI at UCL Laws and is heavily involved with the Pan-European Seal (PES) Traineeship program. As the managing editor of the Kluwer Copyright Blog, she significantly contributes to discussions within the field, while also holding a position on the executive committee of the British Literary Artistic Copyright Association (BLACA). Her expertise is sought after by international organizations such as WIPO and EUIPO. Alina completed her PhD in Legal Studies at Bocconi University, where her thesis, 'EU Copyright Law Machine Learning: Net Authorship Claims,' received a cum laude defense in 2021. Prior to her academic career, she worked as a Legal Assistant at the EUIPO and was involved in the Pan-European Seal Programme. Alina has also spent time at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation Competition in Munich, furthering her research in the intersection of law and technology.
