Biography

Alireza Bakhshai is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen’s University. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Isfahan University of Technology in Iran in 1984 and 1986, respectively, and completed his PhD at Concordia University in 1997. Following his doctoral studies, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Concordia University from 1997 to 1998. Dr. Bakhshai has had an extensive academic career, serving from 1986 to 1993 and from 1998 to 2004 as faculty at Isfahan University of Technology. In 2021, he became a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario and was elevated to Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has made significant contributions to the field as a reviewer for conferences and journals, and through his work on various research committees. Dr. Bakhshai has supervised 17 graduate students, and is currently supervising six. His research interests include high power electronics applications, renewable energy conversion, and control systems. He has also applied his knowledge in industrial contexts, contributing to the application of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) Controllers and developing new motor drive technologies for the Mobarakeh Steel Company in Iran, as well as designing and implementing a Unified Power Flow Controller between 2002 and 2003.
