Dr. Alireza Biglarnia

Biography

Alireza Biglarnia is an adjunct senior lecturer and medical director in the Department of Transplantation at SUS Malmö and an associate professor in Surgery. His research is focused on understanding the inflammatory processes that influence organ function at the moment of transplantation. By combining extensive clinical studies with close patient follow-ups, he aims to generate actionable insights to improve organ utilization, reduce complications, and extend graft survival. He leads clinical drug development initiatives and international collaborations to advance discoveries from early biological insights to clinical testing. His translational work has reached the clinic, culminating in completed first-in-human trials and planning for larger efficacy studies, with the long-term goal of bringing new therapies to everyday transplant care. His expertise supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in relation to organ transplantation, and his work continues to explore new therapeutic strategies.
