Biography

Alireza Karimi received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Amir Kabir University (Tehran Polytechnic) in 1987 and 1990, respectively. After three years of industrial experience, he joined the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG) in France where he received his DEA and PhD degrees in Automatic Control in 1994 and 1997, respectively. He served as an Assistant Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran from 1998 to 2000. Currently, he is a Professor in Automatic Control and the Head of the Data-Driven Modelling and Control Group at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering of EPFL. His research interests focus on closed-loop identification, data-driven controller tuning, robust control approaches in mechatronic systems and electrical grids. Karimi has been actively involved in various academic activities including serving as an Associate Editor for the European Journal of Control from 2004 to 2013, and being a member of several technical committees.
