Biography

Alison Beauchamp is an Associate Professor at the School of Rural Health at Monash University with a clinical background as a Registered Nurse specializing in cardiac care. She is currently an NHMRC Emerging Leader Fellow focused on investigating the role of health literacy in cardiac secondary prevention. Alison completed her NHMRC PhD scholarship at Monash in 2011, where her thesis explored social inequalities related to heart disease. Previously, she held a post-doctoral Industry Fellowship at Deakin University, managing the Optimising Health Literacy (Ophelia) study that co-designed health literacy interventions with clinicians. In 2018, she was awarded an NHMRC Translational Research Practice (TRIP) Fellowship aimed at implementing health literacy strategies in clinical settings. Alison has published over 90 peer-reviewed articles and 3 book chapters and has been an invited keynote speaker at 8 international and national conferences. She has also led successful research grants totaling $7 million AUD and currently supervises multiple PhD and honours students. Her research interests include health literacy, health inequalities, social epidemiology, cardiovascular disease, chronic illnesses, and improving communication within clinical contexts.
