Biography

Alison Craig is an Associate Professor in the Department of Government at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research interests include American political institutions, legislative politics, the policy process, network analysis, and text data. She has received support from the National Science Foundation for her work aimed at improving the understanding of the day-to-day functioning of the United States Congress, with an emphasis on the relationships between members and the challenges of policymaking in a modern legislature. One of her notable publications is the book "The Collaborative Congress: Reaching Common Ground in a Polarized House," published by Cambridge University Press, which discusses how despite conflict and partisan warfare, Congress members often work together to craft substantive policy proposals. Craig's findings have been published in several academic journals such as the American Journal of Political Science and Legislative Studies Quarterly, and she teaches both graduate-level and undergraduate courses on topics related to American political institutions, statistical analysis, and network analysis. She earned her Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 2017 after completing her B.S. in political science at the University of Oregon. Prior to her academic career, she spent eleven years working on Capitol Hill in various roles, including legislative assistant and field representative.
