Biography

Alison Cribb is a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, specializing in palaeoceanography and palaeoclimatology. Her research interests center on marine ecosystem engineering and the role of ecosystem engineers during climate-related stress events and mass extinctions. Cribb utilizes the fossil record to reconstruct the evolution of marine ecosystem engineers, including bioturbators and reef builders, and to understand their responses to mass extinction events. She investigates how ecosystem engineering groups have influenced ecological and evolutionary dynamics affecting organisms and communities. Currently, she is particularly focused on studying the responses of ancient ecosystem engineers to past global warming events, which helps provide insight into potential future impacts on modern ecosystems. She is a member of the Palaeoceanography and Palaeoclimate Research groups. Since 2023, she has held the position of 1851 Science and Engineering Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, building upon her PhD studies conducted at the University of Southern California from 2018 to 2023 and her undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt University from 2014 to 2018.
