Biography

Alison Crossley is the Executive Director of the Clayman Institute for Gender Research, where she has served for ten years. In her role, she leads the strategic focus and operations of the Institute, engaging with partners within the Stanford academic community. Crossley manages various programming initiatives, including fellowship programs that support faculty research fellows, postdoctoral research fellows, graduate dissertation fellows, and undergraduate internships. Working closely with the Faculty Director, she sets the thematic focus of the Institute. Her books, 'Finding Feminism: Millennial Activists Unfinished Gender Revolution' (NYU Press, 2017) and 'Feminism in the United States: Concise Introduction' (Routledge, 2024), analyze the contemporary feminist movement through an intersectional lens. Additionally, she has published numerous articles and book chapters addressing social movements, online feminism, and the continuity of the feminist movement. Her research has been featured by notable outlets including NPR. Prior to her current position, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Clayman Institute. Alison earned her MA and PhD in Sociology, with an emphasis in Feminist Studies, from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She also holds an MA in Media Communications from Goldsmiths College, University of London, and a BA in Women's Studies from Smith College, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude, and with Highest Honors.
