Biography

Alison Harvey is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Materials at the University of Manchester, specializing in Materials Science with a focus on Advanced Biomedical Materials. She completed her PhD in 2010, working on fluorescent peptide-based biosensors. Following her doctoral studies, she was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate, studying the biocompatibility of surface topographies in 3D composite scaffolds for stem cell differentiation. In 2019, she rejoined the Department as a Teaching and Scholarship lecturer associated with the EPSRC funded Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Advanced Biomedical Materials, where she is responsible for developing innovative teaching modules such as Responsible Research Innovation (RRI) and Imaging Techniques. Alison actively participates in teaching across all levels of the Materials Science and Engineering program and contributes to various committees related to equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). She has a keen interest in inclusive teaching practices and has created outreach initiatives aimed at engaging diverse student populations in STEM fields. In addition, Alison engages with the community through public engagement activities and organizations. She plays a pivotal role in fostering student involvement in projects that enhance their educational and research experiences.
