Biography

Alison Holmes is a Professor of Infectious Diseases at Imperial College London, where she directs the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit specializing in Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). She leads a large multidisciplinary research program focusing on antimicrobial resistance, epidemiology, public health, and the development of precision medicine. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and a Senior Investigator for the NIHR. Furthermore, she has served as a consultant in Infectious Disease with the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and has held positions as Associate Medical Director for Infection Prevention and Control. With an extensive clinical research career, her work has significantly influenced local, national, and international health practices. Alison Holmes has acted as an expert member of the Governmental Advisory Committee on AMR and has contributed to parliamentary health committees. Currently, she is the President of the International Society for Infectious Diseases and participates on various expert advisory boards related to antimicrobial use and infection prevention. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, she played vital roles in several national advisory groups and panels.
