Biography

Alison Duncan Kerr is a feminist philosopher whose research focuses on emotion theory and the ways emotions contribute to overall rationality. Her interests span a range of topics including gender, love, sex, logic, and artificial intelligence. Before joining the Philosophy Department at Illinois University in Autumn 2023, Kerr was engaged with The Work Inclusion Project, where she contributed significantly to groundbreaking equality work in higher education. Previously, she was the Founding Director of the St Andrews Institute for Gender Studies, overseeing related master's programs and serving as a research fellow at the University of St Andrews. Kerr completed her PhD at The Ohio State University, where she wrote her dissertation titled 'Affective Rationality' under the supervision of notable faculty. She holds an MA from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and spent years at the University of Oregon before transferring and obtaining her undergraduate degree from Smith College.
