Biography

Alison Merchant joined the Centre for Health Systems Safety Research in 2020 as a research officer. She completed her pharmacy degree and has postgraduate qualifications in clinical pharmacy from the University of Sydney. Alison has enjoyed practicing as a pharmacist in various settings, including her recent role as a Senior Pharmacist in the Cystic Fibrosis Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Westmead Hospital. Her experience includes being a Medicines Information Pharmacist and serving as an eMM Project Pharmacist and Terminology Analyst at the National eHealth Transition Authority. Currently, her research focuses on medication safety and prescribing errors, and she is particularly interested in the use of medicines in cystic fibrosis, as well as novel routes of medication administration and the impact of long-term medication use on access to personalized medicines. Additionally, Alison is interested in the impacts of organizational change on the use of medicines.
