Alison More is the inaugural holder of the Comper Professorship in Medieval Studies at the University of St. Michael’s College. A passionate Latinist, her research interests focus on alternative interpretations of historical records, particularly the intersections of social and religious culture in Northern Europe from 1250 to 1450. She co-teaches the Boyle Seminar on Scripts and Stories, introducing first-year students to Medieval Celtic studies. Professor More has organized the Annual Medieval Women’s Writers Workshop at the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies since 2017 and regularly hosts symposia on medieval women writers. Previous to her tenure at St. Mike’s, she was affiliated with the Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies at the University of Kent, where she developed and taught core courses on Latin and palaeography. She developed her Latin skills under the mentorship of Reginald Foster in Rome and has held teaching and research fellowships at Harvard, the University of Edinburgh, and Radboud University. Professor More's work has contributed significantly to the understanding of Franciscan studies and the medieval Scottish context.
