Dr. Alison Rodger

Biography

Alison Rodger joined the Research School of Chemistry at the Australian National University in 2024 after two decades at the University of Warwick. Her research focuses on the development and application of spectroscopic techniques to understand the structure and function of biomacromolecules and their assemblies. She specializes in spectroscopic biophysical methods involving circularly and linearly polarized light techniques for studying nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. Alison has designed and applied new techniques to analyze how biomolecules interact, including innovations in linear dichroism and fluorescence spectroscopy. Her work is multidisciplinary, involving sectors such as medicine and mathematics. She leads an open-access biophysical spectroscopy laboratory, contributing to both academic partnerships and industrial users. Alison is deeply committed to supporting early career researchers and has played a key role in initiatives aimed at facilitating the development of Gender Equality Plans in research organizations. Recognized for her contributions, she has received several prestigious awards, including the David Craig Medal Lecture from the Australian Academy of Science and is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science.
