Alison Rowley received her B.A. Honours in History from Carleton University in 1993 and completed her Ph.D. at Duke University in 2000. Her research interests focus on Russian-American soft power relations, Russian social and revolutionary history, women's history, and Russia's depiction in popular culture. Currently, she is working on a book titled 'Soviet Rites of Passage: Conscript Demobilization Albums and Military Culture in Late Socialism, 1964-1991,' co-authored with Dennis Stepanov. She has another advanced contract project with Bloomsbury Academic titled 'Imagining Russia in America: Depicting the Tsars and Soviets.' Rowley has received accolades for her teaching, including the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Faculty of Arts and Science, and she has been nominated for the President's Excellence in Teaching Award at Concordia University. She served as the President of the Canadian Association of Slavists from 2016 to 2021 and co-chaired the organizing committee for the 10th ICCEES World Congress hosted at Concordia University in August 2021. Rowley is currently a member of the Education Advisory Council at the Blavatnik Archive Foundation.
