Biography

Professor Alistair Greig trained as a Marine Engineer with the Royal Corps of Naval Constructors in the Ministry of Defence. He has spent time at sea on warships and submarines. He completed his BSc in Mechanical Engineering and MSc in Marine Engineering at University College London (UCL), and later pursued a part-time PhD at UCL focusing on underwater robotic applications. He was appointed as a Lecturer at UCL in 1989 and became a full Professor in 2016. He has served as Deputy Head of the Department for Education from 2017 to 2023 and has a keen interest in Engineering Education, leading recent revisions of the Engineering Subject Benchmark Statement. He is actively engaged in national and international accreditation for higher engineering education and capacity building. He has played significant roles in various educational organizations, including the Engineering Council and IMarEST, where he has been involved in promoting engineering education and stimulating research. His current research focuses on ship concept design and improving ship efficiency.
