Biography

Alistair Hunter is a Senior Lecturer in Health and Social Policy at the University of Glasgow, having joined in 2018. Prior to this role, he held a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Edinburgh. He earned his PhD in migration studies from Edinburgh in 2012, which awarded him the Maria Baganha Prize. His research focuses on issues of ageing and international migration, particularly the end-of-life concerns of ethnic and religious minorities in the UK and Europe. Alistair has authored a book titled 'Retirement Home? Ageing Migrant Workers in France: The Question of Return', which was published open access by Springer in 2018 and received an honorable mention for the Khayrallah Prize in Migration Studies. He has also co-edited a forthcoming handbook on migration and ageing. His teaching covers contemporary health challenges and action research projects at the undergraduate level. Previously, he has held positions at the University of St Andrews and the David Hume Institute in Edinburgh, and was a visiting fellow at the French National Institute of Demographic Studies in Paris.
