Dr. Alistair Williams

Biography

Professor Alistair Williams specializes in Gynaecological Pathology, focusing on reproductive pathophysiology. His research has extensively covered a range of topics related to reproductive function, particularly around contraception and the management of uterine fibroids, as well as both benign and malignant gynaecological diseases. A significant part of his work delves into the effects of selective progesterone receptor modulators (SPRMs) on the endometrium. As a member of a clinical and basic science research team led by Professor Hilary Critchley, he is involved in investigating the pathophysiology of the endometrium and the mechanisms leading to abnormal uterine bleeding. He brings a wealth of experience from participating as a pathologist in various clinical trials, particularly in conducting pathological assessments of endometrial biopsies in Phase III studies of SPRMs sponsored by Bayer and Gedeon Richter Preglem. His collaborations include notable researchers from institutions such as the University of Edinburgh and international partners such as Boston and Paris.
