Dr. Aliya Khalid

Biography

Aliya Khalid is a Senior Departmental Lecturer in Comparative International Education at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford. Her research focuses on the principles of epistemic justice, exploring critical questions related to marginalization and knowledge recognition within educational systems. Khalid examines intersecting forms of marginalization including gender, class, ethnicity, and migration, and their impact on educational aspirations and experiences of exclusion. Her work spans diverse areas such as post-crisis education in Pakistan and the recovery of educational practices post-COVID-19 in the UK. She actively engages with young people, families, teacher-educators, and community members to promote inclusive and responsive educational practices. Khalid leads several research initiatives, including projects on socially sensitive research approaches for British students of Pakistani and Bangladeshi heritage and the language planning policy in multilingual educational settings. She is also involved in collaborative efforts aimed at understanding teachers' experiences in student learning outcomes-based education and addressing gendered inequalities in education. Through her work, she aims to foster open dialogue on issues of epistemic justice within various educational contexts.
