Biography

Alla Gagarinova is an Assistant Professor in Molecular Genetics at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). She completed her Honours BSc degree with High Distinction in Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Toronto in Mississauga, followed by an MSc in the Department of Biology at Western University, and a PhD in Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto. She has undertaken postdoctoral research at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina. Her academic interests include systems biology, genetic interactions, chemogenomics, proteomics, the development of new antibacterials, and studying host-microbe and microbe-microbe interactions alongside environmental adaptation and antibiotic resistance. At UNB, she utilizes interdisciplinary approaches to investigate bacterial biology and genetic protein-protein interactions. She employs advanced robotic instrumentation for large-scale bacterial colony pinning and high-throughput screening, alongside other tools such as mass spectrometers and next-generation sequencers. She teaches courses such as BIOL3013 Advanced Genetics and BIOL1001 Biological Principles.
