Biography

D. Allan Drummond is an Associate Professor in the Biological Sciences Division at the University of Chicago, focusing on Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. His research explores how cells respond to stress at the molecular level, with a particular emphasis on the formation and dissolution of large assemblies of proteins and RNA during stress events, including heat shock. His lab employs a variety of techniques such as in vivo imaging, in vitro reconstitution, mechanistic biochemistry, quantitative proteomics, and molecular evolutionary analyses. One of their model organisms is budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Drummond's work has featured significant advances in understanding stress-triggered assembly processes that are conserved across eukaryotes, including humans. His scholarly contributions have been recognized, and he has received awards such as the Pew Scholar Biomedical Sciences from the Pew Charitable Trusts and the Sloan Research Fellowship from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
