Allan Willms received his PhD from Cornell University in 1997. He worked as a Visiting Scientist at Cornell University and then as a Lecturer at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, from 1998 to 2003. In 2003, he joined the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Guelph as a Professor. His research focuses on dynamical systems models for biological processes and the applied end of mathematics, aiming to make complex mathematical concepts accessible to biologists and engineers. Recent work includes developing simple climate change models and understanding bifurcations in mathematical biology. Willms has also introduced innovative methods for parameter estimation in ODE models and has analyzed the effects of symmetry in systems of oscillators. His extensive research portfolio covers a broad range of biological applications, from modeling fish population dynamics to studying climate transitions.
