Biography

Allegra Gordon is a social epidemiologist who employs both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies to delve into the mental and physical health effects of discrimination and the influences of gender norms and stereotypes on the health of young people across the spectrum of sexual orientations and gender identities. She obtained her Doctorate in Social & Behavioral Sciences, concentrating on Women, Gender, and Health, from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, as well as a Master of Public Health focused on Sociomedical Sciences with a concentration in Sexuality and Health from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. Her undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Arts, was earned at Swarthmore College with a focus on Education and Environmental Studies. Dr. Gordon's ongoing research investigates the links between gender expression and health behaviors among adolescents in the U.S., the impact of online environments on substance use and disordered eating behaviors among transgender and gender-diverse young adults, and the barriers to and facilitators of access to HIV prevention and sexual health services for these populations. Her work is pivotal in understanding the harmful impacts of weight stigma on the health of sexual and gender minority populations, and she actively leads several projects funded by various research grants.
