Dr. Allen Hicken

Biography

Allen Hicken is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan’s LSA International Institute. He received his PhD in Political Science/International Relations from the University of California San Diego, and his Master’s degree in International Political Economy from Columbia University. Hicken has focused his research on political institutions, political economy, and policy-making, particularly in Southeast Asia, with a specific emphasis on Thailand and the Philippines. He is a co-author of the book 'Mobilizing Elections: Patronage and Political Machines in Southeast Asia,' which explores clientelism and money politics in the region. Hicken has also contributed to the academic field as the co-editor of several significant works, including 'Building Party Systems in Developing Democracies' and 'Politics of Modern Southeast Asia: Critical Issues in Modern Politics'. His scholarly interest lies within the fields of Political Development and Political Economy, specifically pertaining to Southeast Asia.
