Biography

Allison Everett is an Associate Professor in the Teaching Stream and serves as the MSW Practicum Coordinator at the School of Social Work at Carleton University. With extensive experience in social work education and practice, she has taught various courses including Introduction to Social Work Practice with Individuals and Families, Values and Ethics in Social Work, and Introduction to Social Work Practice with Groups and Communities. Her academic interests encompass community development and mobilization, pedagogy in field education, racialization, belonging and identity, culturally responsive practices in social work, as well as issues of housing, homelessness, mental health, and human rights advocacy. She is committed to healing and resilience in Indigenous and Black communities, focusing on racial trauma and the experiences of people of color. As a founder of the School of Social Work Black History Committee, she actively participates in promoting equity and inclusivity within the university and beyond, engaging in several professional associations such as the Canadian Association for Social Work Education, and the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
