Biography

Allison Fenske joined the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba in 2023 as Clinical Counsel. She is a member of the clinical practice team and acts as the Director of the University of Manitoba Community Law Centre, a long-standing partnership with Legal Aid Manitoba that provides law students the opportunity to represent individuals who otherwise would not receive legal aid. Fenske leads the development of the International Human Rights Clinic and has taught courses at both the Faculty of Law and the University of Winnipeg. She obtained her LL.B from the University of Manitoba in 2007, where she was a Solomon Greenberg Finalist and received several awards, including the Top Oralist and Team Award at the 2006-07 Wilson Moot. Fenske was called to the Manitoba Bar in 2008 and began her legal career at Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP before joining the litigation practice at Legal Aid Manitoba's Public Interest Law Centre. Her work has focused on human rights and constitutional law, representing diverse and equity-deserving groups at various court levels, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Allison is also actively involved in various community initiatives, having previously served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for Klinic Community Health and engaging in initiatives related to safe consumption sites. She has received multiple awards for her contributions to teaching and access to justice.
