Biography

Allison M. J. Glazebrook is a Professor of Classics and Archaeology at Brock University, specializing in Greek Social and Cultural History, Women, Gender, Sexuality, and Greek Oratory. Her research primarily explores the social and cultural history of ancient Greece, particularly concerning women, gender, sexuality, and slavery. Utilizing texts, vase iconography, and archaeological data, she investigates issues surrounding sexual labor in classical Athens and the portrayal of sex workers within legal and social discourses, with a focus on the Athenian sex trade. Glazebrook is currently working on a SSHRC-funded project examining the cycle of slavery in this context. She holds a BA from the University of Alberta, an MA from Queen’s University, and a PhD from the University at Buffalo. Throughout her career, she has received various honors, including being a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and full membership in significant academic organizations. She is also committed to teaching and mentoring students, encouraging interest in ancient history through the Classics program at Brock University.
