Dr. Allison Goebel

Biography

Allison Goebel is a professor in the Department of Sociology at Queen's University. She completed her PhD in Sociology at the University of Alberta. Her primary research interests encompass Environmental Justice, Gender, Environment, and Development issues primarily in Southern Africa. She analyzes the intersection of societal factors such as health, urbanization, and climate change with pertinent movements around local food issues. She has published extensively on topics related to gender and housing, sustainable urban development, and land reform, with significant works including 'Women, Urbanization, and the Right to the City in South Africa' and 'Gender and Land Reform: The Zimbabwe Experience.' Goebel's contributions to sociological research emphasize the importance of understanding the social impacts of environmental changes and the dynamics of marginalized communities. She continues to engage with broader implications of globalization and gender relations in the context of environmental development.
