Biography

Allyson F. Creasman’s research interests focus on religious reform, confessional relations, social discipline, criminality, and early modern German cities. Her recent book, 'Censorship and Civic Order in Reformation Germany, 1517-1648: Printed Poison and Evil Talk,' explores the impact of censorship on print and oral culture in the formation of public opinion and the construction of civic and religious identity during Germany’s long Reformation (c. 1520-1650). She is currently researching another book on slander and defamation in German imperial cities during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Dr. Creasman earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in history from the University of Virginia, where she was also a recipient of a Fulbright fellowship in Germany from 1998 to 2000. Prior to her academic career, she practiced law in Florida and earned her B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Florida. In addition to her book, her publications include articles on topics such as policing print culture in early modern cities and the sociocultural dynamics between the Virgin Mary and Jews in the context of pilgrimage.
