Biography

Aloke Chatterjee joined the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Law in July 2003 as an Associate Professor after graduating from Dalhousie Law School in 1997. He completed post-graduate legal studies at Harvard and served as a law clerk to Mr. Justice Ian Binnie at the Supreme Court of Canada. He has extensive experience in civil litigation and has taught courses in Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure, and Evidence, guiding students through these complex areas of law. Professor Chatterjee has also coached UNB’s Laskin Moot team, which competes in Canada’s premier moot court competition focusing on constitutional and administrative law. His scholarly interests primarily revolve around Constitutional Law, Human Rights—particularly disability law and policy—and Legal Process, especially civil litigation procedures. He has presented his work at various professional forums and has focused on procedural aspects of disability litigation in his current research. Chatterjee’s expertise is sought at both the provincial and national levels, evidenced by his terms on the Board of the Canadian National Institute of the Blind and the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission. He has actively engaged with the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, advocating for civil rights in Canada.
