Biography

Alonso Carrasco-Labra is an Associate Professor at Penn Dental Medicine and Director of the Cochrane Oral Health Collaborating Center. He joined the School in October 2021 as a tenure track Associate Professor in the Department of Preventive & Restorative Sciences. Prior to his role at Penn, he served as the Senior Director of the Department of Evidence Synthesis and Translation Research at the American Dental Association (ADA) and directed the ADA’s Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry. He earned his DDS from the University of Chile and completed a PhD in health research methodology along with a master’s in clinical epidemiology from McMaster University, Canada. Dr. Carrasco-Labra is a widely published author and has served as a consultant for various organizations including the World Health Organization and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. His extensive experience includes working on clinical practice guidelines and being actively involved with the Cochrane Collaboration. He is currently the principal investigator of an FDA-funded grant focused on evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for managing acute dental pain.
