Biography

Alp Sipahigil is the Ping and Amy Chao Family Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, and holds joint appointments as a Faculty Scientist in the Materials Sciences Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and a supporting appointment in the Physics Department at UC Berkeley. He leads the Berkeley Quantum Devices Group, which focuses on solid-state device research aimed at advancing quantum computation, communication, and sensing. The group studies a wide range of physical systems, including superconducting quantum circuits, color centers, integrated photonics, and phononics. Prior to joining Berkeley in 2021, Dr. Sipahigil was a postdoctoral scholar at the Institute for Quantum Information and Matter at Caltech. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University in 2017 and holds B.S. degrees in both Physics and Electrical Engineering from Bogazici University, obtained in 2010.
